Questions & Answers
Q. Question? I have been looking all over the internet and i cant find anything that helps what i'm after. i'm a 17 year old girl who wants a full body workout routine without having to pay for anything and without having any fancy fitness equipment apart from weights, can anyone help me with this? I'm doing this as i do ice skating as a hobby/possible career in the future. and i would like to be stronger,

Thanks

A. Best Answer: for a girl you dont need alot of equipment

just a ball... music , maybe a cardio machine
some light weights and thats it!

the more advanced equipment will come later
like this (half ball)
http://www.ab-core-and-stomach-exercises.com/images/bosu-ball.jpg

you only need to do exercices like set up... running ... aerobic with music stuff like that
and maybe a little bit of bench press with the dumbells

Q. Question? I'm considering either an exercise bike, a rowing machine or an air walker / cross trainer thingy. Just wondering which is the best for all round fitness and tone?

Thank you.

A. Best Answer: i personally like the elliptical. with the hand holds you can get a full body work out and it is less Impact on my knees and joints.

however for all around fitness and tone. nothing beats swimming. (i know a pool is not the equipment you had in mind) but really swimming offers great resistance. no impact and awesome cardio

Q. Question? Hello!

I am off to Uni after the summer and in the build up to that I wanted to get into a shape as I have not looked after my body as well as I used to. Currently just very skinny and left with little upper body muscle where I used to be very athletic etc after a few to many years hooked on computer games.

The question is, should I invest £280 in a gym for 7 months where I will guidance etc however may only be able to attend 2-4 times a week. Or personal equipment such as weights which I can use whenever within the comfort of my own space but I may not push myself as hard at home? Equipment may also come in handy over Uni unless of course they offer free gym membership...

If personal equipment, any particulars that would be advised? I was looking at things like:

However I am very much clueless and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A. Best Answer: You're definitely not going to build muscle at any noticeable rate using the equipment you listed. How much you "know" about weight training? Could you do with a few pointers from an instructor? I'd invest in a membership as having spent the money will probably motivate you to go. Just make sure you get value for your money - your induction and a new routine every month or so (usually included, no need to shell out for personal training). You'd probably have to spend close to £250 to get any half-decent equipment at home. And the uni gym will definitely be cheap. A friend of mine pays just £10 per month for a uni gym in London, and I payed £25 per YEAR in Leicester a few years ago.

Q. Question? I'm 16 and I would like to join curves. I used to have a membership at the Y but it's quite a distance from school while curves is just around the corner. From what I've read I don't see anything about just being able to use the equipment and make your own routine up, do you have to follow their circuit training thing or what? Can somone explain to me how this works..? And is this an environment for a 16 yr old or is it all middle-aged women?

A. Best Answer: I went to curves when I was 14 and 15, but I started to hate it after a while. They have the machines in a circle and you have to do the circuit. I found a lot of people were older but a few were younger, although I was the only teen.
I'd personally just go to the closest gym where you can do what you want and make your own routines xo

Q. Question? Hi,

I'm looking for help designing a decent fitness plan for myself. Here are the horrible details...

I'm 5 foot 10 and weight in at 18 stone, I'm a smoker (although have cut down drastically to about 2 - 3 cigs a day) and I am seriously unfit. I'm getting married this year in August and want to look good and feel good on my big day. I'm not unrealistic about my weight goals, I'd love to be around the 12 stone mark eventually, I wouldnt be upset if I was nearer 13 stone for my big day.

I need help designing a work out programme that will help weight loss and improve my general fitness. I want to be a proper runner one day so I want to build up endurance.

I have equipment available. I have a treadmill, a stepper, 60 second abs, weights and a set of those rubber band skipping rope things, think the proper name is resistance tubes. Unfortunately I'm too heavy for my treadmill just now by nearly a stone so can't use that just yet.

Any help anyone can give me would be absolutely amazing and extrememly helpful.

PS, I'm on a healthy eating plan just now, very basic, just trying to drink more water and herbal teas, and eat less junk and more fruit and veg.

A. Best Answer: Check out www.rosemaryconley.tv - it has all the answers
Also get the magazine - it is full of calorie counted low fat low sugar recipes and ideas for exercise
You can start now by running up & down the stairs
Good Luck

Q. Question? i have budgeted as much as i can and i still cant afford a gym membership but i want to get my old fitness level back.
i havent been able to afford the gym for a year now. i used to go 3-4 times a week for at least an hour on cardio each time. i also did spinning classes when i could.

i dont own any fitness equipment and cant afford to buy any.
i dont have a bike either.
i walk everywhere as i live close to the town centre. i also have a dog so i take her out for walks.
but i think i need to do more

A. Best Answer: Jogging is unquestionably the simplest way of taking good quality CV exercise with minimum equipment.

Q. Question? So basically I'm 16 I would like to learn a fighting style as above. And no I don't want to go beat the crap out of someone. I would like it as an extra type of fitness towards my football (soccer). I live in a rural area and my parents don't have a great deal of money to afford gyms about 40 minutes away. As I do football (soccer) I feel kickboxing may be a good choice, but i have no idea so I'm leaving it to you experts to give me some advice. Something you can learn at home and a possible website. I do have enough money to buy certain equipment, like a basic punch bag and skipping ropes gloves etc. Help and advice would be much appreciated!

A. Best Answer: if its fitness your after i would recommend teakwondo. but if your after a self defence then ju-jistu or thai boxing. always go to the class and watch, see what you think b4 diving straight in.

Q. Question? A Hotel that I went to asks all its guests to sign a disclaimer in which it is stated that "the hotel will not be liable for injuries to persons using the sports facilities"

I attended a conference at the Hotel and had asked what the clause meant and was told by the receptionist that the Hotel would not be liable if I was injured because of my ?lack of fitness?

So whilst I was using the running machine a sudden fault occured causing it to suddenly speed up and throw me off the machine! I hit my head on the machine behind me and ive been badly injured. The injuries prevented me from attending a business meeting in Windsor and as a consequence I have now lost the opportunity of obtaining a potentially lucrative contract :-(

Subsequently we have both exchanged letters but the Hotel remains adamant that they are not legally liable to pay compensation to me because of the document I signed on arriving at the Hotel.

To what extent is the Hotel able to avoid liability on the basis of the clause that I have signed?

Could I sue them? If so and the Hotel is unable to rely on this clause alone then to what extent would they be liable to pay me compensation not only for the physical harm suffered but also the mental distress, resulting from the incident?

To what extent would they be liable to compensate me for the financial loss that has now surfaced?

under what acts of the laws would i benefit from i am clueless to the laws of this country! (UK)

A. Best Answer: A waiver does not included negligence. If you can prove negligence, you can still sue.

The waiver is for people who injure themselves because they are careless with the equipment, or because the over exert themselves.

A. Best Answer: They still have to meet a reasonable duty of care but you would have to prove they new or should have known that the equipment was faulty.
With regards compo, if you can't afford a lawyer why not use a no win/no fee type.
